welcome to the mill yard café

Welcome to Mill Yard Café - a place to chat and unwind, rest during a walk or cycle around the South Downs, gather after a yoga or pilates class, cool down after the heat of the sauna, or warm up after a cold plunge. A place of restoration & community.

We offer a nourishing menu made with locally sourced ingredients where possible - set in beautiful surroundings on the Barlavington Estate, in the heart of the South Downs. We serve guests from a wonderful converted horsebox, and offer outdoor seating in the farm courtyard, or inside in a small, cosy converted barn.

Our team are passionate about great coffee; we partner with local coffee roaster Cast Iron, based just minutes away in Chichester, to bring you a brew that is both delicious and sustainably sourced.

our coffee story….

We are committed to delivering coffee that is both delicious and kind to the planet and are excited to have  partnered with local artisan roaster Cast Iron who hand roast their coffee beans just a few miles from us.

Delicious coffee starts at the source.  How the cherry is picked, processed and transported affects quality. Knowing the origin of our coffee and that it is responsibly sourced is of vital importance to Cast Iron and to Mill Yard.

We have carefully selected the single origin Catanduva coffee from Cast Iron, a rich, sweet, low acidity chocolatey coffee grown by Marie Nakao, a third-generation coffee producer  whose farm embraces sustainability and transparency. She is a standard bearer for regenerative farming practices within Brazilian coffee.

Cast Iron are committed to using zero waste buckets and compostable bags and at Mill Yard we only use compostable cups, we offer discounts for those who bring their own cup and we even use our coffee grounds as compost.
